Remodeling Costs
Your Guide

When planning your project, cost always comes up sooner or later. As always, the answer to this question is "it depends", but we'll try to get you started.

Online, you’ll find average remodeling costs that are highly misleading. We think it’s important to get relevant information from local experts, specific to your needs. An informed client is a smart client.

Being transparent with pricing so clients can see the full picture and plan better is one of our core values here at Craft Design + Build.

Therefore we’ll approach the discussion about cost from multiple angles – from the size of the project, specific costs, to the value you’re adding to your home, and what factors can drive those costs.

The Value Of A Kitchen Remodel

      Average: $75K         High-end: $100K+

When it comes to value, remodeling your kitchen will create an environment that you can enjoy daily for years to come. It can also help you sell your home easier when the right time comes.

When you begin planning your kitchen renovation, you should know it’s typical to spend between 7-15% of the home’s value on remodeling work. If you own a $700,000 home, you can budget between $49K and $105K for your kitchen upgrade without losing your investment when it comes to resale.

In the Remodeling’s 2021 Cost vs Value report for Connecticut, for a midrange kitchen remodel there’s a 48.6% return on investment when selling homes. A minor remodel will get you back almost 60% of your investment. What may seem like an expense, at first sight, comes back tenfold when you look through the lens of how it impacts your day-to-day.

Kitchens are also the renovation that has the highest joy score reported by the National Association of Realtors, a 10/10. 95% of the survey respondents said they have an increased sense of enjoyment when they are at home.

What are the main cost drivers of my kitchen remodel?

Size and Complexity

Cabinets: Cabinetry is almost always the most significant investment for your kitchen remodel. Semi-custom cabinets may cost you $25,000 while custom cabinets tailor-made for your kitchen may cost $40,000 for a medium to large sized kitchen.

Appliances: Replacing your kitchen appliances with mid-level appliance brands from LG, Samsung, and KitchenAid may cost around $8,500. If you'd like high-end appliance packages with integrated panels from brands such as Sub-Zero, Wolf, or Viking, your investment may be upwards of $30,000+.

Wall Removal: While removing a non-load-bearing wall may cost only $2,500, removing a load-bearing wall may cost upwards of $20K depending on the complexity. I wish we had X-ray vision, but we may not know what's inside the wall until we open it up.

Other cost drivers include flooring replacement/refinishing, moving plumbing locations, and quality and quantity of tile.

Budgeting for Time

We understand having strangers walk past your kitchen table every morning can be highly disruptive. We, at Craft Design + Build, believe planning is the secret ingredient to the success of every project. We allow 8-10 weeks for the average kitchen remodel. However, timeline can increase in tandem with complexity.

What are the main cost drivers for my bathroom remodel?

Size and complexity: Larger bathrooms require more materials and labor. A frameless glass surround for a 3'x5' shower may cost $3K. A larger shower with an L-shaped frameless glass surround may cost upwards of $8K+.

Fixtures: Plumbing and electrical fixture vary widely in cost. We have remodeled beautiful bathrooms featuring shower fixtures in the $400 range and also fixtures in the $5,000 range. You will need to decide what is most important to you and we can help design a lovely bathroom to fit your needs.

Budgeting for Time

One thing that our clients value most in our bath remodeling service is delivering the project on set times.

It’s uncomfortable to have strangers in your home. It’s unpleasant to not be able to enjoy the privacy of the master bathroom while in the process of remodeling.

With that said, it’s our top priority to give you your bathroom back as soon as possible. That’s why we plan ahead and notify you in time to offset any issues that may appear down the line.

We allow up to eight weeks for a general bathroom remodel.
